🏃‍♀️ CMK Medical Centre is Proud to be a Parkrun Practice

At CMK Medical Centre, we are delighted to be an official Parkrun Practice, working in partnership with parkrun UK and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to help improve the health and wellbeing of our patients and staff through physical activity and community participation.

What is parkrun?

Parkrun is a free, friendly, weekly community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply spectate. It is not a race and there is no time limit, making it suitable for people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels.

Every Saturday morning, thousands of people across the UK come together to enjoy a welcoming 5km event in local parks and green spaces. Junior parkruns (2km) are also available on Sundays for children aged 4–14 years.

Everyone is Welcome

One of the biggest misconceptions about parkrun is that you have to be a runner.

You don’t.

Whether you:

  • Walk at your own pace
  • Jog with a friend
  • Run for a personal challenge
  • Push a buggy
  • Use a mobility aid
  • Volunteer to support others
  • Or simply come along to enjoy the community atmosphere

You are welcome.

Parkrun is about participation, not competition, and many people attend for the social and wellbeing benefits just as much as the physical activity.

Why are we promoting parkrun?

Regular physical activity has been shown to improve both physical and mental wellbeing. As a Parkrun Practice, we want to help patients find enjoyable ways to become more active while connecting with others in the local community.

Being active can help to:

  • Improve heart health
  • Support weight management
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Improve mood and confidence
  • Help manage long-term health conditions
  • Reduce loneliness by connecting with others

As part of the national Parkrun Practice initiative, our clinicians and staff may suggest parkrun as part of a healthy lifestyle or social prescribing conversation where appropriate.
